Uttarakhand Election Results 2022 Live Updates

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to return to power in Uttarakhand as it has bagged 47 seats, 11 more than the required majority in the 70-seat assembly. As of 10.45 pm Thursday, the Congress has won 18 seats and is leading in one segment. It is going to be a record of sorts for the BJP as it is going to hold on to the power in the state where the anti-incumbency factor has not let any party retain power since its formation in 2000. The BJP has also been able to influence voters on issues like national interest, national security, army welfare, and religious tourism.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who contested from Khatima Assembly constituency, has lost the election to Indian National Congress’ Bhuwan Chandra Kapri by a margin of 6,579 votes, as per official EC trends. In a major setback to the grand old party, Congress strongman Harish Rawat also lost the election.

The counting of votes in Uttarakhand, which voted on February 14, started at 8 am on Thursday. The state recorded a voter turnout of 59.51 per cent. In 2017, riding the Modi wave, the BJP managed to win 57 of the total 70 Assembly seats while the Congress won just 11.
